What should I do with one day in London?
Short answer
Pick one side of the river and walk it. A strong single day: British Museum at opening, lunch in Bloomsbury, walk to Covent Garden and Soho, cross to the South Bank late afternoon, and finish with the Thames walk from Tate Modern to Tower Bridge at dusk.
The mistake in a one-day trip is collecting landmarks across the map. You will spend three hours on the Tube and see stations. Choosing a corridor and walking it gives you far more of the city.
If your day is a Sunday, swap the museum for Columbia Road flower market and Broadway Market, which show London at its best.
